You’re the leader of a company, product, project, team...
(whether you’re at the startup, scale up, or global domination stage)

...change is inevitable and success is dependent on your ability to react and adapt while holding an inspired vision for the future.

Perhaps you're in a period of accelerated growth or a shifting landscape that is requiring you to pivot, innovate, or self-disrupt.

All of this can be incredibly exciting...

...but it also comes with increased pressure and a lot of unknowns.

Your team, stakeholders, and customers are looking to you for direction, decisions, and answers…

...answers you may not have.

You are surrounded by potential…

...leading a team made up of people who are likely smarter than you in their respective areas of expertise, and who may be leaders themselves.

But you’re still the one at the helm, holding the vision, and the one who needs to ensures that the team delivers results.

Knowing exactly how to harness their potential, unlock possibility, and direct collective momentum so that it energizes and fuels the upwards trajectory of your company can feel like a huge and daunting task…

...but you know that the profitable, sustainable, impactful business you want to build depends on it.

Yet without the tools and skills you need to fully unleash the tremendous potential your team holds, and leverage the opportunities in the market, the technology, and the partnerships you have…

...you keep scrambling to find solutions and answers, all the while suspecting that there MUST be another way of leading that can generate revolutionary results.

Hear this, leader: there is.

There truly IS a way of leading that can have a transformative effect on your team, your products, and your bottom line.

Hear this, leader: there is.

There truly IS a way of leading that can have a transformative effect on your team, your products, and your bottom line.

The secret is to lead with questions, instead of leading with answers.

Leading with questions is actually quite revolutionary — because so many of us have been taught that leadership is about having the answers.

Since early childhood we’ve been trained to put up our hands to give answers, celebrated for having the right ones, and discouraged from asking "too many" questions.

This conditioning translates into leaders feeling pressured to have all the answers and dictate the action that they want people to take.

And while having good answers is the part of being a good leader, we know you’re not aiming for good...

And while having good answers is the part of being a good leader, we know you’re not aiming for good...

You’re AIMING for GREAT.

And GREAT leaders take a different approach.

Great leaders ask great QUESTIONS. They’re curious, inquisitive, and spark discussions that lead to new visions, strong relationships, innovative thinking, and informed, inspired action.

Great leaders play a lot of roles, including visionary, coach, consultant, teacher, negotiator, facilitator, and problem solver. All of which benefit from a healthy dose of curiosity.

They know that pushing boundaries, overcoming obstacles, and making new discoveries are a direct result of asking great questions...both of their team members and of themselves.

Whenever they find themselves confronted by a problem or don’t know what to do, they recognize there’s a need — and an opportunity — to first find the right question to ask.

Because in asking, they increase their knowledge, understand new perspectives, create deeper connections, and uncover possibility.

How I made the shift from "Having the answers" to asking great questions...and how you can too!

Hi, I’m Charity Joy...

In 2006 I joined the world of tech startups, working with a small team to build an online game — a game that would become the world's largest virtual world for kids and, eventually, be acquired by Disney.

Soon after I was hired I was asked to lead the product development team. By this time in my life I had acquired some good communication, creative, and leadership skills, however, I was still just a theatre school dropout and an ex aqua-fit instructor for seniors. I certainly didn’t have the "answers" to guide this type of team.

How I made the shift from "Having the answers" to asking great questions...and how you can too!

Hi! I’m Charity Joy...

The game was a hit, the team grew exponentially, we expanded globally, we were acquired by Disney. Then the market shifted, technology changed, stakeholders got more demanding, and I was in over my head. As the pressure mounted everyone was looking for direction, decisions, and answers. Answers that I didn't have.

One evening I find myself having dinner with a friend in Seattle, a tech director at Microsoft, and I spill my frustrations. "I don't feel I can lead the team into the future because I don't fully understand what our tech platform is capable of." He looks at me surprised, and says something I will never forget.

“Your job is not to know the tech. Tech is changing all the time. Your job is to lead, and that will never change. Ask the team what's possible. If they can’t tell you, they don’t understand it either.”

In that moment I realized I could lead anything — and get great results — not by knowing, but by asking better questions.

Since then, I have helped to start and scale multiple successful tech (and non-tech) companies across a variety of industries. I mentor entrepreneurs, CEOs, and founders all over the world, and have partnered with some of the biggest names in tech and entertainment.

And at the end of the day, I attribute my ability to pivot, innovate, connect, and lead to my insatiable curiosity, passion for possibility, and my ability to ask great questions.
You can have this too!

I know what it’s like to have all eyes on you, to feel the pressure of both startup and success, to have to lead through relationship and influence key decision makers, to feel the loneliness of being at the top, and to wake up every morning with an overwhelming desire to be better and do better for everyone who is depending on you.

Whenever you feel discouraged, frustrated, or overwhelmed with the pressure or the unknown, the ability to engage your curiosity and ask great questions will help pull you through.

You are where you are for a reason. You're a leader. You've got skills. But you may feel like you've hit a plateau, or are facing challenges with scale, team culture, or market disruption that you're not confident to lead through.

If so, it's time to get curious!

This is what will take you from good to great — because what has gotten you to where you are today, will not get you to where you want to be.

When you begin to ask the right questions you open up a world of possibility where imagination, innovation, creativity, solutions, and endless opportunities reside.
